Driving back home this evening, i was wearing a T shirt the heater on medium and feeling very hot...my girlfriend was wearing, gloves, fleece, hat and a coat! and was complainig that she was cold!!!
I'm a little concerned about our holiday which is her first winter holiday, she is gonna freeze to death!
Is it just us or are there any other partners out there who are thermally noncompatible?
Are you a hottie?

I always think of -20 as the point where you need to take extra care about what you wear. I was outside (not skiing) at -40 once; definitely felt different to -20, but I know what you mean.
There are many medical conditions that make some people feel the cold more than others.

I'm an oven, my BF is a fridge! Took 2 years to convince him to give snowsports ago and an xmas gift of decent baselayers, socks, gloves etc. He finally joined my friends and I for our annual snow worship, enjoyed himself immensely, immediatly booked a trip a fortnight later for himself and the kids (without me! RAT!) then redeemed himself by taking me again 6 weeks later.

I also have the problem of being permanently freezing but don't let it come between me and the snow. In fact, I notice the cold less when skiing than back at home! I've found that merino wool thermals (particularly under my salos) work well. I paid about £35 for my last pair (Helly Hansen) so not ridiculously expensive. On the top I find a base layer, fleece and insulated jacket is fine for cold weather and lose a layer as it gets warmer. My hands aren't normally too bad but I have a spare pair of lined gloves in case the temps really drop.
In answer to the original question my husband is always warm so definitely thermally incompatible (though useful as a hot water bottle....) :D

I dont feel the cold at all. But I believe the cold away is a "different type of cold"
In ski resorts it is generally a dry cold, not a wet damp one. Yes, -4C in France and -4C in England is the same, but it feels nicer as it is not damp! Plus generally dressed for the occasion :D

Surprised you had to ask :D :D :D
I wear shorts 99% of the time even on winter trips to the Alps ( much to the confusion of some elderly French ladies whom seem to lose all concern when they find out I'm English.....explains a lot I suppose....mad dogs and all that ).
As for the better half a base and mid layer of clothing nothing bulky though and a half decent windproof/waterproof jacket and she should be fine.
Also the obvious hat and gloves shouldn't be left out, a few people I've introduced to skiing over the years have said "what about the cold"....and once they are out on the slopes with all the muscles working the thought of the cold just doesn't come into it for them.
I'm sure she will love it have a great trip, and Happy New Year.

The cold is damper here, I always feel it more too.
And don't you find that once it gets past about -20 it all feels the same?
